Defending champions Antrim face strong Derry challenge

Antrim v Derry- Casement Park Sunday 17 ^th June 3.45pm

Reigning champions Antrim play Derry in Sunday’s NWP Recycling Ulster Senior Championship Final at Casement Park and everyone is expecting a very tough battle. Antrim may go into a final for the first time in a while as underdogs however both captains, Aishling Jackson of Antrim and Gráinne McGoldrick are weary of the strengths of their opponents on Sunday

Derry Captain Gráinne McGoldrick believes they are well positioned to succeed on Sunday after an impressive National League which saw Derry win Division 2 and puts them in with the elite counties in 2013.

“ We’ve been going well this year so far, we were on a high after the National League and it was a big effort to win Division 2 and then we took a bit of a break. Winning Ulster is the next target and we are working hard and feeling good.”

“We know all about Antrim, they are a good team and looking at our Semi-Final we were lucky to beat Down. We were fortunate to come back in that game when it looked like we were going to be beat. Lady Luck was on our side that day however Antrim is the next challenge and they have some of the best players in the country in their side so we’ll need to be prepared”.

Aishling Jackson said Antrim are fully focused on the game against their rivals as the go to reclaim the Rosina McManus Cup, which will be played on the 4 ^th Anniversary of the death Rosina who was President of the Camogie Association from 1968-1971.

“ Our training has been going quite well, we’ve had a full squad out training and everyone is really buzzing and excited for Sunday. I think this year we wouldn’t be favourites for the game but we‘ll be ready and we think our chances are good. We’ve been focused on this game only and not towards the All-Ireland Championship and the Ulster Final is our goal at the minute.

The game will throw in at 3.45pm on Sunday in Casement Park.
