St Benedict’s face St Columban’s in last Camogie action of 2012

Junior Shield Final :

Thursday 11.30am in Callanbridge, Armagh

St Benedict’s Randalstown v St Columban’s Kilkeel

The last camogie final of 2012 takes place this morning at Callanbridge in Armagh (11.30am) with the prize of the Junior Shield and a place in the All-Ireland semi-finals up for grabs.

Both St Benedict’s and St Columban’s have had scares with single point victories en route to this decider.

St Benedict’s almost tripped up against St Genevive’s but edged home 2-4 to 3-0.  They were convincing winners in the semi-final with Breffni College Cavan though and the Devlin twins, Bronagh and Aine, Caroline Quinn and Gabrielle McCann were in excellent form that day.

St Columban’s only asserted themselves in the last 10 minutes of their semi-final with the other Cavan qualifier St Claire’s Ballyjamesduff and that was back in mid-November.

They have a number doubtful with injury and illness this week and will not finalise their line-out until shortly before throw-in.

During the last fortnight, 8 Ulster finals have been decided in Colleges’ camogie with 3 titles going to Derry schools, 2 each to Down and Armagh, and Sunday’s Rosina McManus Shield staying in Cavan.

Antrim schools lost the two Grade A finals.  Perhaps this is the time for St Benedict’s to keep the Saffron flag flying.
