Tyrone prepare for a new challenge

After a year playing in the NWP Recycling Ulster Senior Championship Tyrone are back in the Intermediate Championship and will face Down’s second string before the Down v Antrim Senior Championship game in Ballycran on Sunday. In Eglish last year Tyrone put Armagh under pressure before the Orchard girls pulled away at the end and this year Tyrone manager Dean McParland believes his side are pitched at the right level.

“We are back in the Intermediate grade this year which is our level currently, we have a young squad but we have a good mix of youth and experience and we will give it a good rattle this year. We were in senior championship last year and played Armagh in Eglish and it was a tight game. Our league campaign has gone quite well and we were unlucky to lose the Final to Carlow.

Antrim will also field a second string side where each team will face off in round robin games with the top two facing off again in the NWP Recycling Ulster Intermediate Final in Owenbeg, Derry on June 15 ^th . Dean believes that this change will see benefits across Ulster . “The Intermediate grade will be good for promoting Camogie within Ulster as more Antrim and Down players will get exposure to Inter-County camogie. It’s also great for our girls to be competing with teams such as Down and Antrim. We have been looking forward to this Ulster Championship as we have a young and upcoming team and we’ll give it a good rattle”.
