Kathleen Woods to stand for Camogie Association President

On Monday 7 ^th  October at an Armagh County Board meeting Kathleen Woods was confirmed as a candidate for Uachtaran  of An Cumann Camógaíochta following a nomination from St Mochua’s Derrynoose. This nomination was unanimously approved by the Armagh County Board. Kathleen Woods is current Ulster Camogie Chairperson and will vacate this position the Annual Camogie Congress which will take place in her native Armagh in March 2014.

Following the nomination from St Mochua’s Kathleen shared her thoughts on how much her involvement in Camogie has meant to her and also her vision for the future of An Cumann Camógaíochta

‘ Camogie is our legacy, inherited from those who made our association great.  Like all of the Camogie family I have spent a lifetime of involvement in this amazing game. But Camogie is not just a game that offers sporting opportunity; it is a lifestyle and it is our duty and responsibility to preserve and develop this association for future generations, presenting it stronger and healthier to meet the challenges of the 21st century’.

  Kathleen has been highly involved in the development of Camogie across all units of the Association being a founding member of Culloville Camogie Club, being instrumental in the re-establishment of St Mochua’s Derrynoose alongside coaching all Gaelic Games codes as a former teacher and school principal. Kathleen’s term as Cathaoirleach Camógaíocht Uladh is preceded by acting as Armagh County Secretary, Ulster Vice Chairperson and Children’s Officer.

As Ulster Chairperson Kathleen has worked tirelessly to improve relations with all Gaelic Games codes and believes this is integral for our clubs and communities across the country.

‘ Integration with the rest of the Gaelic Games family is developing across the country and within Ulster the relationship with Ulster GAA, Ulster Ladies, Rounders and Handball has never been greater while all still maintaining our individual identity. I believe throughout the country we can worker better together and will work towards developing these relationships. We can work together on developing the ‘One Club’, assisting each other in Child Protection & Welfare and protecting the female athlete and preventing clashes which affect our players’.
