Kathleen Woods congratulates Ulster GAA on Casement Park approval

Following today’s announcement today by Mark H Durkan MLA, Minister for the Environment granting full planning approval for the redevelopment of Casement Park, Ulster Camogie Chairperson Kathleen Woods has congratulated Ulster GAA for the work undertaken to get to this stage of the project.

‘The development of a flagship stadium for Ulster GAA will create a great legacy for Gaelic Games across the Province and Ulster Camogie Council are excited by the various sporting, community and economic benefits created by developing Casement Park. Through our fantastic relationship with Ulster GAA, Ulster Camogie Council have been kept fully in the picture as this project evolves. Crucially Ulster GAA are committed to ensuring that Casement Park will be the most female friendly stadium in Ireland for spectators, players and officials.

In the past two years key Camogie games have been played at Casement Park and among these games include Ulster Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championship Finals and All-Ireland Club Semi-Finals. We are encouraged by the commitment of Ulster GAA that Ulster Camogie will have significant usage of Casement Park as required.

We are of the firm belief that Gaelic Games in Belfast will be boosted as part of this development. The aspiration of many young females in Belfast and throughout Ulster to play games at Casement Park will undoubtedly increase participation and also alleviate drop out in teenage years as players aspire to represent their clubs in County and Provincial finals at Casement Park.
