McMullan keen for Antrim to regain silverware
At senior level Antrim have had little to shout about in the last couple of years however a young batch of players are hoping that the conveyor belt of talent still rolls on in the saffron county.
In 2013 Antrim’s Intermediate side was largely made up by their minor side that has developed well in recent years. Manager Davy McMullan has worked with this team for a number of years and is encouraged by the potential of this side to invigorate the senior team in the coming years.
‘The team has been together for a number of years based on minor teams and last year’s Intermediate team although we have brought some more players into the squad. The squad has developed as the players have become more experienced and being that year older will help. They’ve been training more at senior level and they are now a bit smarter on the ball and their all round game has developed’.
McMullan hopes that the Intermediate set up has ensured that players are continued to be provided with exposure to Inter-County camogie.
‘We are pleased with the squad that we have and there is a talented young team there. Some of last year’s team have progressed into the senior team. Having the Intermediate team has provided the girls with a bit more experience and they all know each other quite well. We’ll be looking to girls like Niamh Adams, Eimhear Costello who were influential last year and girls like Ruby Marie Rice who is good to have in the squad so we have confidence going into this Championship. We want these girls to progress as players’.
Cavan are stepping up after winning the NWP Recycling Ulster Junior Championship in 2013 and the Breffni county and Antrim wouldn’t have crossed paths on many occasions so McMullan
‘We don’t know an awful lot about Cavan but we are looking forward to coming up against them and we are hoping to progress into another final. Hopefully we can reach another final but it’s one match at a time we look forward to playing Cavan on Sunday’.
