Goals galore as Cavan and Tyrone can’t be seperated

Tyrone and Cavan will have to do it all again after the NWP Recycling Ulster Intermediate Championship Final ended a draw, 3-12 to 4-09.

It was the Red Hands who held a narrow three point lead at the break, 2-05 to 1-05 but a thrilling second-half saw four goals, two of them coming in the final 15 minutes as the side’s could not be separated.

Roisin O’Keefe scored a fantastic solo goal in the first half after Tyrone went into an early lead however Tyrone responded with goals from Caoimhe Rafferty and Laura Logue to see them lead at half time. The second half proved to be every bit as tight as the goals continued to come. Sinead McKenna put Cavan back into the lead before Niamh McNulty and Niamh Gavin bounced on rebounds for Tyrone to lead by 4-06 to 2-10 with only 7 minutes to go. An Evelyn Smith free seemed to go all the way to the back of the Tyrone net as the sides went level going into injury time. Smith added what was thought to be the winner for Cavan before Niamh Gavin fired over a superb equaliser for Tyrone in what was a fantastic game.

Roise Crowe, Brid Bolyan and Roisin O’Keefe were among the standout players for Cavan while Shauna Jordan, Niamh Gavin and Ashling Corr performed well for Tyrone. Both sides will be hoping that they can step it up once more in the replay which will be in Granemore on Sunday 15th June at 6pm.
