Tyrone seal Ulster Intermediate Championship at second attempt

Ulster Intermediate Championship Final Replay: Tyrone 2-11  Cavan 1-06

Tyrone are the 2014 Ulster Intermediate champions after they saw off Cavan by eight points in Madden yesterday.

The Red Hands dominated the first-half with Niamh Gavin, Meabh Conway and Shauna Jordan all grabbing two points apiece. Further points from Ailing Corr, Emma McLellan and Maggie Hagan ensured that they held a seven point lead at the break on a scoreline of 0-09 to 0-02

Although Cavan fought back in the second-half with but Emma McAliskey and Aisling Corr pointed to extend their lead once more.

Goaled for Cavan but Tyrone responded through Niamh Gavin and Niamh McNulty who both raised the green flag to give their side a well earned victory.

Tyrone manager Jacqui McKendry was delighted that her side was able to get over the line and commended the  character of her side.

“We are over the moon to have got the job done at the second opportunity. After last week where we nearly lost it in the dying minutes only to save it in injury time it was important that we got off to a strong start and that is exactly what the girls did.

“We knew from last week that Cavan were going to put it up to us but thankfully the girls held strong and we are the Ulster champions,” she added

McKendry said she was delighted for her side especially the players who lost out to Anthem Seconds last season, saying: “I am absolutely delighted for all the girls, there is a great mix in the panel with experienced players like Juile Lagan who is our captain and players who have given great service to Tyrone over the years. I am particularly pleased for the players who were on the panel from last year. The girls talked about last year and I know it hurt them so I am so happy that they are able to call themselves Ulster champions.”

Tyrone’s Aisling Corr was named Player of the Match.
