Lacken take honours in low scoring AIB Ulster Junior Final

Going into the AIB Camogie All-Ireland Club Championships, Ulster Junior Final it was difficult to name a favourite as both teams were very strong. But in this tight and enthralling encounter the strong wind definitely had a role to play. Both teams were very confident from the throw in but the swirling wind made it difficult to get the first score. Eventually Lacken got first blood to go a point up but Newbridge hit back very quickly to even the tie. It was Lacken who managed to score next to have a one point advantage. there was very little to seperate the teams before half time as both teams were struggling to hit the target but it was Newbridge who went in with a lead by scoring a gola to leave it Newbridge 1-1 Lacken 0-3 at half-time.

Going into the second half it was Lacken who came out stronger and managed to hit back with several points to be 0-6 to 1-1 up midway through the half. Newbridge were denied another goal on several occasions thanks to strong defending from Lacken with cornerback Fiona Brady and goalkeeper Helena Brady stopping everything that Newbridge full forward Chloe Henry hit at them but down the other end Lacken full forward Roisin O’Keeffe was a constant thorn in the side of the Newbridge defence. In the dying minutes both teams exchanged points with Lacken coming out on top with a 0-7 to 1-2 victory. There was a slight downside to the game in an accidental collision Newbridge cornerback Clare McKenna needed medical attention before being carried off with suspected concussion. Thankfully Clare was given the all clear from the paramedics.
