Belfast University Camogie Derby

Now that the ulster club championships have concluded there is a local universityderby this Wednesday in Belfast. Traditionally the big two of university Camogiewould feature Queens and UUJ,however St.Mary s have made that the big threecapturing silverware last season by winning the Fr. Meachear shield.The west Belfast side take on current league winners QUB at the excellent Dub arena(7.30) with the  winners going into the league semi finals. Both teams have had twocomfortable victories against Dublin sides Trinty and DIT. There will be no fewerthan 24 senior inter county players on show, St. Marys have quality  defenders inEilis Ni Chaside and Maeve Quinn along with several players returning from theUlster senior final, Loughgiels Ashling Mc Fadden  Maira Lynn and Maeve Connollywill now team up with Eoghan Rua s Maira Mooney and Senior Camog of the year MeganKerr.Queens led by Derry Manager Joe Baldwin and coached by Downs 3x soaring starCatherine Mc Gourty have excellent players in there squad, Antrim s MeabhdhLaverty, Katherine Donnelly , and Danielle Mc Michael link well with Derry duoDervla O Kane and Mairead MC Nicholl. The return of Dual star Mairisoa McGourty fromRossa  and the form of Captains Bronagh Mc Gillion and Ruby Maire Rice have beenimpressive so far for Queens and this will need to continue as St. Marys fresherAine McAllister is one of Ulster's top young players.This will be a real titanicbattle in Belfast and a real Halloween treat for Camogie supporters .QUB v St. Mary's  Wednesday Dub Arena. 7.30 Referee Owen Elliot.
