Clonduff pip Eglish to the Ulster title in another tight affair!!

There was no separating the teams in the first game and the replay was to take a similar format in Pearse Og Park. The first half was almost a copy of the first tie with Eglish getting of to a quick start and taking control early on by getting the first score with Clonduff hitting back. But again it was Eglish who were coming out on top in the first half, midway through 1-05 to 0-02 in the lead. Clonduff needed a life line to get back into the game and it came through a converted penalty by Fionnuala Carr to make the score Eglish 1-05 Clonduff 1-02. This goal had no effect on the Tyrone ladies as they hit back immediately with two points from a free and 45 by a very accurate Ciara Donnelly. Eglish went in at the break with a 1-07 to 1-03 lead but this tie was by no means over!!

The second half started as many predicted with Clonduff coming out the strongest with Paul Gribben scoring a point but this was soon followed by a reply from Eglish, with close to 10 minutes gone in the tie it was Eglish 1-08 Clonduff 1-05. Clonuff had a big wind advantage and this was perhaps well needed as Cassie Fitzpatrick received a second yellow card an was sent off!!

With Clonduff now down to 14 players you would expect Eglish to take control of the game and extend their lead but this wasn’t the case, the 14 ladies of Clonduff seemed to take some inspiration from the sending off and Sara-Louise Carr hit the back of the net to bring the teams all square with just over 15 minutes to go. In the remaining 15 minutes of the second half both teams battled to get control of the game, with a lot of action between the two 45’s. But it was the 14 Ladies of Clonduff who managed to get the final point and scrap through with a 1 points victory. Clonduff 2-07 Eglish 1-09
