All-Ireland Colleges’ Senior A Camogie semi-finals

Presentation, Kilkenny 0-13 St Flannan’s, Ennis 2-7

Seamount, Kinvara 1-11 St Mary’s, Magherafelt 1-11

IN A DRAMATIC day of camogie action on Saturday both All-Ireland Colleges’ Senior A semi-finals finished in draws.

Ulster champions, St Mary’s, Magherafelt just couldn’t hold out for victory in Kinvara, succumbing to an injury time point that means that the teams must meet again in a fortnight’s time at a Derry venue.

It would have been a remarkable victory for the Derry side as they played most of the second half with 14 players following the dismissal of Roisin Cassidy.

It had been a strange day for the Bellaghy defender, who started off as Magherafelt’s sweeper, but midway through the opening half she moved to corner-forward and immediately hit a point.

Five Eimhear McGuigan points had Magherafelt in good shape during that first half and they led by 0-7 to 1-3 at the break.

However they lost their way for a while after the red card and it took a touch of brilliance from Niamh McKee – a brilliant solo goal – to put their heads back in front at 1-9 to 1-8 going into the last ten minutes.

The sides traded points, but the visitors looked to have taken the spoils when Eimhear McGuigan pointed a free with a couple of minutes left, but a late point left the sides deadlocked on 1-11 each.

In the other semi-final, All-Ireland champions Presentation, Kilkenny needed a last minute point to hold off visitors St Flannan’s, Ennis 0-13 to 2-7 and the teams will have to meet again next Saturday.

All-Ireland Colleges’ Senior B Camogie semi-finals

Holy Rosary, Mountbellew 3-10 Assumption Ballynahinch 2-5

Gorey C S 3-7 Scoil Mhuire, Carrick on Suir 0-6

ASSUMPTION, Ballynahinch feel that their All-Ireland dream was snatched from them in the five minutes before half-time down in Moutbellew.

Despite not scoring for the first 12 minutes, and going 0-4 down, they were leading the local Holy Cross team by two goals after producing a super 15 minutes of camogie.

Aimee McAleenan opened Ballynahinch’s account with a 12 ^th minute goal, Anna Rogan added three points and then Nuala Mageean’s 45 dropped into the Moutbellew net. Rogan added a point and possibilities were opening for the Down side.

However Mountbellew may a couple of switches and scored two goals before the break, one of them an excellent individual effort to go in on level terms 2-4 each.

Ballynahinch simply couldn’t get going during the second half, scoring a single point. Their opponents went on to win by 3-10 to 2-5 and will play —- in the final next month.

All-Ireland Colleges’ Senior C Camogie semi-final

St Dominics Dublin 4-6 St Malachys Castlewellan 1-3

Abbey Community School, Ferrybank 1-5 Sacret Heart Clonakilty 3-6

A STRONG second half from St Dominic’s, Cabra ruined the visit of St Malachy’s, Castlewellan to Dublin for their All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday.

Castlewellan turned around at the break 0-3, to 0-2 down and in a good position to cause an upset.

However Ciara McDonnell pointed twice for the Dublin side on the re-start and two goals each from Ciara Glynn and Ciara Carolan ended Castlewellan’d dream despite a good goal for Chloe McCusker.

It finished St Dominic’s 4-6, St Malachy’s 1-3.

Meanwhile in the All-Ireland D semi-final, Our Lady’s, Castleblaney fell to the expected heavy defeat to Loreto, Rathfarnham, while in the All-Ireland Junior semi-final St Columba’s, Portaferry lost to Coláiste Íosagán, Dublin by 7-13 to 1-4 in Portaferry.

Claire Donaldson was the home side’s best player and she scored 1-2, while Erin Hagan scored the other two points
