In Swatragh this Sunday Derry are hoping to continue their dominance of the Ulster Camogie Senior Championship against a Down side which is yet to show their flare from 2014, although nobody can cast any doubt over the Mourne girls as they are the reigning All Ireland Junior Champions.

 

In a replay of the 2014 NWP Recycling Ulster Camogie Senior Championship Final it is Derry who go in as huge favourites after an impressive Semi-Final performance against Antrim in a blustery day in Loughgiel. Down on the other hand have struggled in preparation for this game with many players taking preference to club camogie but manager Marty Mallon will ensure the Down girls are well motivated before taking the field on Sunday. Down have a host of stars in their team including Interprovincial Champions Niamh Mallon, Catherine McGourty and Sara Louise Carr all of whom were outstanding for Ulster and those games will put the girls in good stead for this weekend.

In the Semi-Final Derry matched everything that Antrim could throw at them, lets not take anything away from Antrim as it was a fantastic performance from the Saffron’s but the strength, depth and more so experience of the Derry side shone through in the end. One player who will be hoping for another fantastic performance is Player of the Match from the 2014 Final Karen Kielt. Derry manager Joe Baldwin will be hoping his girls are well prepared for everything Down star Niamh Mallon has up her sleeve on Sunday.

Down have always thrived on the underdog tag so going into the weekend we can look forward to an exciting game from two teams who have a host of talent in their squads and we have two teams who never give up until the final whistle, let the battle commence!!
